This week we received a new cover for the collection – nothing special but an interesting cover as it has an unusual diamond shaped mark over the address and we didn’t have a cover like this in the collection.
On a separate note we’ve taken delivery of a lot more stock for the store and will aim to get this live in the next couple of weeks – there are some real bargains to go up as well as some rarer items. There is also a rumour that we are to be featured in one of the UK stamp magazines – more details here when it happens!

Having only recently discovered this website (even though I'm a member of the study circle) I have started to read through the existing blogs.
The diamond shaped mark on this cover is a British P.O. mark usually seen on covers posted in October each year, and I believe indicates that the item was counted in the GPO's census of the mail. This census was a regular event but I don't know when it started or finished. Hope this helps, albeit only 11 years after your original post!
Hi Simon,
Thanks for this and you've reminded me that I really should go back and update some of these old blogs. Some time after writing this I saw a presentation where the speaker explained the census markings on covers; I just forgot to connect the dots!
